Check
Your Alley - - Avoid a Citation
It has been reported that several alleys in our
neighborhood have an excess of tree and shrub growth hanging into the alley to
the extent that it scrapes against passing cars. Overgrown shrubs also cause
blind spots at corners and curves in the alley, or at a driveway. City Code
requires the occupant or owner of the property to be responsible for keeping the
alley clear of obstruction. This includes trimming of trees, shrubbery and
vines. We encourage our neighbors to abide by this Code to avoid a citation. For
more info, see www.dallascityhall.com. Code Compliance: Common Code Violations,
Ob¬structions (Section 18:14). Please check the alley behind your home to see if
it needs trimming or mowing. Many of our neighbors use the alleys for access to
their homes.
Help the
City of Dallas Animal Shelter
A big "thank you" to all neighbors that helped
make my donated Christmas tree really sparkle at the new City of Dallas Animal
Shelter. Kudos to Lynne Jennings, Ann Connelly, Steve Evans, Mike Monday, April
McElhone and her class of 4 yr olds, and Tod Franklin. Also, much appreciation
to all those that donated towels for Shelter use.
This new facility at 1818 N. Westmoreland is
quite wonderful and through the help of area neighbors, it's even more so. Yes,
I know that there's been some negative publicity, but I also know that
corrections have been and will continue to be made. The Shelter does need
donations of (used, but clean) towels - all sizes over hand size, and blankets
(you can drop those items over at my front door - 9029 Vinewood) AND volunteers.
Call Marcialyn Banks at 214-671-0314 to
volunteer. They need folks to help at the Shelter and also those that work with
off site adoptions, i.e., Petco, etc. There are wonderful "dog/cat/puppy/kitty
babes" out there – all sizes, all breeds, all "mixes," etc., but all deserving
of a good home and all would make a wonderful addition to your family.
Thank you,
Judy Hall, District 9 Animal Shelter Commission
member
Resources for our Precious Pets
Of the dogs taken in by Dallas Animal Shelter,
1818 N. Westmoreland, at least 1/3 are purebreds. Also, beautiful cats and
kitties are available. Adoption cost is minimal and includes shots,
spay/neutering, and a chip. Call 214-671-0315 to find out if your animal has
been impounded. For adoption info call 214-671-0249 or visit www.petfinder.com/
shelters/TX236.html. Metroplex Animal Coalition lists info on low cost
spay/neutering, low cost vaccinations, veterinarians, clinics and resources,
www.metroplexanimalcoalition.com. East Lake Pet Orphanage near us has animals
for adoption, www.welovepets.net. phone 214-342-3100. When we consider that 5-9
million cats and dogs are euthanized each year, costing $2 billion to tax
payers, we must be responsible pet owners. Lost Pets: If you are a member of
CLFNA, use our e-mail group to locate or report a lost pet in our area. Setting
a Good Example for My Owner. If your pet does not do this on their own ... you
should.
Please
Patronize This Shop Dedicated to Community Service
Second Chance Treasures, 9034 Garland Road across
the street from Hong Kong Restaurant and next to the Bike Mart. All profits are
donated to animal care. Second Chance Treasures is an upscale resale shop opened
to the public. Our promise is to help the animals at East Lake Pet Orphanage.
East Lake is a no-kill facility and is committed to rehabilitating animals in
their care. If an animal is treatable when it comes to East Lake we work hard to
ensure that it can become adoptable as well.
It is expensive to operate our pet orphanage and
we depend on donors and our special fundraising events such as garage sales,
Tour of Homes, Wine on the Roof Pet Fairs and now we have added an upscale
resale shop located at 9034 Garland Road As far as we know we are unique in
having a shop where all the profits go for the care and rehabilitation of pets
so that they are adoptable and will find good caring homes.
Thank you,
Judith C.
